In that same report, there were several recommendation made to the MOECC.
Last month we shared the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario’s Report in which additional recommendations were offered to the MOECC.
Did these reports have any influence on the recently-announced realignment of the MOECC? That’s a question for those with more political insider knowledge than I’m privy to as geoscientist.
MOECC Organizational Changes and Realignment
Here is what we do know. According to the cover letter signed by Deputy Minister, Paul Evans, “The reorganization creates a structure to enhance our services and helps us deliver on our commitments to the people of Ontario that protect our environment, public health and fight climate change.”
The new structure at the MOECC includes several new divisions:
- Environmental Economics and Analytics Division
- Policy and Program Division
- Climate Change Directorate
- Environmental Assessment and Permissions Division
- Drinking Water and Environmental Compliance Division
According to the Deputy Minister, “This ministry-wide transformation will make us more effective in our delivery of innovative and risk-based compliance and enforcement services.”
This reorganization points (again) to the importance of staying informed on the ever-changing environmental regulatory issues.
We have done our best to cover some of these many changes. In 2017, our blogs have encompassed several changes, including “PFAS: An Emerging Environmental Contaminant,” “Chemicals Management Plan Update,” “MOECC Changes the Permitting for Air, Noise, and Odour,” and more.
We’ll continue to do our best to help you stay up to date so you can make more informed business-environmental decisions in 2018 and beyond. As always, if you need assistance with an environmental issue, please feel free to contact me at 519-979-7300, ext. 114.
